For a non-expert intro to ion trapping, here's an introductory talk I gave at the Boston Museum of Science: Trapping Ions for Quantum Computing .

The RAVIOLIS project

Entanglement techniques employed in quantum information can also be used to make extremely precise measurements of the atom, allowing us to test our fundamental understanding of the universe and search for physics beyond the Standard Model. Funded by an SNSF Starting Grant, RAVIOLIS is a five-year project that aims to make the most precise measurement to date of atomic parity violation - read our paper on how we will do this.

My previous work has involved searching for a new force between the neutron and the electron using isotope-shift spectroscopy (read more about how this works here). See our recent paper on precision spectroscopy of calcium isotopes, where we find no evidence for a new force, but set a strong upper bound on its magnitude (read more in the accompanying ETH news article and Physics viewpoint).
